Out and About The Janet and John Book

Janet has been to an auction, it has been several months since she has been to one and she felt rather excited at the prospect of winning some more ceramics to add to her collection. The large number of boxes stacked in her son’s garage has caused her some embarrassment, but she feels that she has been very good since it was pointed out that there was a fine line between collecting and hoarding. She was determined that at this auction she would only to bid on the lots she had marked in the catalogue, not on anything that caught her eye, there were five altogether, three were ceramics, one glass and one silks and photographs. The conversation in the room between the regular traders was one she had heard before, new buyers were pushing the prices up. Janet wasn’t worried but as the auction got underway it was clear that competition was keen, she would perhaps have to bid more than she had anticipated if she was going to win anything. The first and second lot went for much more than she wanted to pay but she was determined to win the third. However,  when the bidding had reached £100 above the price that she had set for herself she knew it was time to stop. By the time the fourth lot came up, she had lost her enthusiasm and let the silks go. Janet went into the cafe, which was where many deals were  done between traders, as she drank her coffee and eat her consolation cake, something caught her eye, she noticed that one of the regulars had a box of books, she was really interested in one of them and he was more than happy to let her have it for a few pounds. Janet came away from the auction very pleased with herself, she had spent very little money and now she had a new focus, she would start collecting Janet and John Books.
